Honors Competition Rules
Perform one solo piece (or one movement of a multi-movement work.) Memorization is required. Open to all instruments and voice. There are no minimum or maximum time limits. There are no teacher attendance requirements to enter students. 50% of all entrants in each division will be chosen to perform in either the Winners or the Honorable Mention Recitals. Of that 50% in each division, 50% will be chosen each between the Winners’ Recital and Honorable Mention Recital. First place winners cannot participate in the same division for which they won. They must wait until they are eligible to participate in the next division.
All chosen students are required to perform in their respective recitals to receive any trophies or awards. Reasons for non-attendance will not be accepted. All students must remain for the entire recital.
Awards will be given at the Winners’ Recital and Honorable Mention Recital. All previous winners are open to compete in this competition.
A student may enter the competition on two or more instruments. However, they must study with a Vivace Music Club member on each of the instrument(s) entered. For example, a student may enter for piano and voice, but only if the student receives private instruction for voice and piano from a Vivace member.
Repertoire changes will be allowed up to one week prior to competition. A student will be disqualified from the competition if he deviates from the repertoire given.
Any teacher entering may be asked to help the chairman with competition activities prior to or during the competition. Unwillingness to help may disqualify the teacher from future competitions. Teachers who assist the chairman will earn 1 point.
